What is a Teddy Bear Goldendoodle?
A Teddy Bear Goldendoodle is a hybrid created from the pairing of an English Golden Retriever or a Teddy Bear Goldendoodle and a Poodle.
The Teddy Bear Goldendoodle ranges in size from
small (20-30 lbs) to large (50+lbs.) depending on the size of the Poodle that the Golden Retriever is paired with.
Teddy Bear Goldendoodles can also be bred
back to a poodle to create a more allergy
friendly dog that is less likely to shed than the F1.
These are referred to as F1b's.
The Teddy Bear Goldendoodle is an affectionate and
gentle dog that has gained popularity since they were first
developed in the 1990s. Goldendoodles are usually very social
and get along well with everyone. They don't generally do well in any
type of guarding or watchdog role and should not be used for that
purpose. With adequate exercise, they do well
in most environments. Goldendoodles do best when housed within
a home environment as they thrive when they are in the company of their
families. Goldendoodles are very versatile working dogs.
They have achieved success as guide dogs, service dogs,
therapy dogs, and sniffer dogs (one study tested their success as
sniffing out peanuts in foods for owners with
nut allergies).Goldendoodles have also done well in
agility. Goldendoodles can be very easy to train and
are a good matchfor first-time or timid owners.
They're not known to have any aggressive
traits, but they do need proper socialization to avoid any
shyness or fearfulness. Goldendoodles also need daily contact
with their owners: they will suffer from separation anxiety if they are left alone for too long.
Coat Types and Grooming-
Goldendoodles are considered light to non
shedders depending on the generation and may be a good match for people with allergies. They do require weekly or biweekly brushing, and many owners opt to have them clipped shorter especially in the Summer months.
Coat types are:
- 1. Straighter-More Sporty
- 2. Looser Wavy Coat (Slight Curl/ Shaggy look)
- 3. Curlier more Fleecy coat
- (The Fleecy coat is the best coat type for those with allergies.)
If you have any questions regarding which coat
type is best for you, please feel free to contact me at
